Erich W. Schienke is a doctoral student in the Department of Science & Technology Studies (STS), received his B.A. from Hampshire College, and his M.S. in STS from Rensselaer. Reflecting his core interest in the interface between culture and technology. His undergraduate thesis was on the early cultural and technical history of the loudspeaker and how they changed the physical as well as the social structures of public spaces. Schienke's doctoral research is a study, across multiple sites in the U.S., Europe and China, of the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the social and political decision-making process on issues of environment and health interactions.
