Sabine Höhler holds a degree in physics from Karlsruhe University (1993) and a doctorate degree in history from Braunschweig Technical University, Germany (1999). Her dissertation on scientific ballooning in Germany around 1900 explores the relations between early aviation sciences and fin de siècle aviation culture. As a postdoctoral research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin (1999-2002) she examined oceanographic research within the cultural and political history of spatial expansion in the 19th and 20th century. Currently, she is a member of an interdisciplinary research group located at Hamburg University of Economics and Politics. Her project deals with scientific constructions of environmental space as a "resource" within the "sustainability" discourse. Höhler's publications include: "Profilgewinn: Karten der Atlantischen Expedition (1925-1927) der Notgemeinschaft der Deutschen Wissenschaft", NTM 10, 4 (2002): 234-246; "'Dichte Beschreibungen': Die Profilierung ozeanischer Tiefe im Lotverfahren von 1850 bis 1930." In: Gugerli, David, Orland, Barbara (eds.), Ganz normale Bilder. Historische Beiträge zur visuellen Herstellung von Selbstverständlichkeit ("Interferenzen", Vol. 2), Zürich, Chronos (2002), 19-46; "Depth Records and Ocean Volumes: Ocean Profiling by Sounding Technology, 1850-1930", History and Technology 18, 2 (2002): 119-154; Luftfahrtforschung und Luftfahrtmythos.
